Early-blooming Emperor or Fosteriana Tulips descend from Tulipa fosteriana, a wild species from Central Asia. They are known for their remarkably huge flowers and bright colors. They are spectacular for colorful garden display and for bouquets. (Emperor Tulips Orange Emperor, White Emperor and Yellow Purissima bloom a bit later than the rest of the group.) Top size bulbs: at least 12 cm. Bloom time: Mid-April. Plant 6″ to 8″ deep and 6″ apart. Horticultural zones 3-8. Height: 10″ to 18″.
